In consultation with the faculty advisor, a student selects the Quantitative or the Qualitative Methods strand to complete, plus one course from the strand they did not select. Students take 33 credits of didactic coursework, 15 of which come from electives. There are required courses in qualitative, quantitative, and theological research, as well as in philosophical issues and leadership. Students also complete an internship before taking a candidacy exam capstone. Once successful, they begin working on their dissertation.

The school provides scholarships for all students during their first two semesters of dissertation work. Brandman University lets students in its Organizational Leadership Ed.
