I'm not sure if my receiver is doing some compensating on it's own, but I get sound out of all 6 speakers regardless and the AC3 route sounds a little muddy. I can't be sure if it's this particular demodulator, or the AC3 tracks on the few movies I've checked out. Anyhow, it's not terrible and still sounds pretty good both ways.
